Savoie road conditions: mountain passes, roadworks and traffic

Are the passes open? Where are the roadworks and restrictions? This page shows, with their dates, the status of the mountain passes (cols), road conditions by sector and the events published on Savoie Route by the Savoie Département, the county-level council.

In short. The pass status, traffic conditions by sector and events (roadworks, accidents, closures) shown here are those published by the Savoie Département on Savoie Route: they are shown as published, with their date, and re-read at least every 10 minutes. If anything differs, the official source prevails; a webcam or a forecast never confirms that a road is open.

Official source: Savoie Route

The data on this page come from Savoie Route, the road information service of the Savoie Département. They are shown unchanged, with their date; check before you set off, as the source is authoritative.

Understanding the conditions

What does this page cover?

Three kinds of information published by the Département: the status of each pass it monitors (open, partly open or closed, with the date of the last change), road conditions by sector (normal, snow-covered, icy…) and the list of events: roadworks, accidents, obstructing vehicles, traffic jams, closures and diversions, on motorways, national roads and departmental roads.

The N90: the road into the Tarentaise

The N90 links Albertville with Moûtiers and Bourg-Saint-Maurice: 15 resorts in our catalogue are reached by it. Our route calculations do not take traffic into account: on a winter Saturday, the journey can take much longer. An event on this road can slow down access to a resort.

The mountain passes of Savoie

The major passes are closed in winter and reopen according to a schedule set by the Département, subject to the weather. Each pass that has a page on this site shows its official status there, along with the weather calculated at its altitude and the available views.

Reading an event

Each row gives the type of event, the road and the commune, the published details (direction of traffic, road operator) and the date it was reported. Some long-running roadworks or restrictions stay listed for months: the date shows this, and those more than 30 days old are flagged as old.

Your questions

Before you go

Which Savoie mountain passes are closed right now?

According to Savoie Route, checked on 6 October at 12:40: no pass closed out of 35 passes monitored. Check before you set off: the official source prevails.

Are there roadworks or incidents on Savoie roads?

Savoie Route listed 80 events (roadworks, accidents, restrictions…) when it was read on 6 October at 12:40. The details, with the date each one was reported, are in the table on this page.

Where does the road information on this page come from?

From Savoie Route, the road information service of the Savoie Département. Savoie Snow shows it unchanged, with its date, and re-reads it at least every 10 minutes. If Savoie Route does not respond, the page says so and shows the national feed from Bison Futé, the French national road-traffic information service.

Where can I check whether a pass is open before I set off?

On Savoie Route: the table on this page shows its status and date, but if anything differs, the official source prevails. A webcam or a forecast does not confirm that a pass is open.

What does “partly open” mean for a pass?

That the pass is open with restrictions published by the Département (opening times, alternating traffic, vehicle size limits, tunnel or pass only…). The details are on the pass’s page and on Savoie Route.

Are all the roadworks shown currently under way?

The source publishes them as current. Some long-running projects stay listed for months: check the date they were reported and the source before changing your route.
