Northern Alps snow depth: measured snow by station
A table to compare, post by post, the snow depth measured on the ground, the fresh snow observed and the snow forecast over seven days in Savoie and Haute-Savoie. The same sources feed the resorts’ snow pages.
In short. The table keeps measured snow (Météo-France observation posts, one reading a day, with its date) apart from forecast snow (model, 7-day total). Out of season, the most recent observations may be several months old: their date is shown, and a missing measurement is never turned into “0 cm” or “closed”.

Understanding the conditions
How to read the table
Each row is an observation post: the snow depth on the ground and the fresh snow are measured at the altitude of the post, not at the top of the slopes. The “forecast snow” column is a calculation for the resort, at the altitude of its highest point. A post with no recent observation is flagged as such.
Observed snow or forecast snow: which should you trust?
Neither replaces a ski area’s report when deciding whether to go. The measurement tells you what has fallen and stayed; the forecast tells you what is expected. When they differ, the dated measurement takes precedence over the forecast for describing current conditions.
Météo-France publishes the avalanche bulletin for each massif during the winter period. Always read it with its date; Savoie Snow does not infer any risk from it.
From the posts of the Météo-France snow and weather observation network (Licence Ouverte 2.0, the French open licence), which publishes one manual reading a day in season. Each value is dated and given at the altitude of its post.
Why do some posts have no recent measurement?
The posts only record snow in season. Outside it, the last observation is several months old: the page shows it with its date instead of displaying zero.
Does this page show which slopes are open?
No. Each ski area publishes whether its slopes and lifts are open; check its official report.
Where can I find the avalanche bulletin for the Northern Alps?
On the Météo-France website, in the mountain section: select the massif and check the date of the bulletin.
Sources and method
Text of this page last revised on . This date says nothing about how recent the images or data are: the webcams are supplied by the credited operators and their timestamp shows when the image was taken; model forecasts and official reports are separate pieces of information, each with its own time.
Northern Alps snow depth: measured snow by station
Observed and forecast snow, post by post
1 post out of 39 has an observation less than 8 days old. Off-season, most posts show an old observation: the date is given, and it does not describe the current conditions.
Snow depth and fresh snow: measurements from Météo-France posts (daily reading, at the post’s altitude). Forecast snow: Open-Meteo model, total for the next 7 days at the resort’s altitude.
Sources: Météo-France snow-observation network (Licence Ouverte 2.0) for the observations; Open-Meteo for forecast snow; Savoie Snow resort pages for announced openings. Open slopes and lifts: not available here, see each ski area’s report. A post without a recent observation is never shown as “0 cm” or as “closed”.
